This online (asynchronous) graduate certificate in Pre-Genetic Counseling is designed to help prepare those who wish to apply to a master of science in a genetic counseling degree program or explore what is involved in genetics counseling. Genetic counselors work in various capacities, including serving in health promotion education, patient advocacy, direct patient counseling, research, and health care management. To become a genetic counselor, one must earn a master of science in genetic counseling from an accredited program and pass a licensing examination.
Our year-round online program lets you earn your certificate in as little as 3.5 months. We offer three start dates, and you participate whenever or wherever all you need is access to a computer and the internet, there are no set classroom attendance times. Courses do have weekly requirements.
Upon successful completion, students will be able to engage in analysis, reflection, and problem-solving in relation to issues in genomics and describe the process for direct patient counseling related to family histories, genetic test results, and genetic medical conditions.
This Pre-Genetic Counseling Certificate provides the opportunity for students to strengthen their applications to highly competitive genetic counseling master’s degree programs. The goal is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge to improve their graduate applications.
“This is an extremely exciting time to be in the rapidly growing field of genetics and genomics. I’m excited to be a part of creating the future of healthcare and advancing the field.”
