Earn Either the DAcCHM or MAcCHM Degree at SCU
SCU’s designed this program so that students can start with the Master of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine and elect while a student whether they want to spend an additional four months and also earn their doctorate. Both degrees will enable you to sit for State and National licensing and certification exams. Earning the doctoral title and degree provides graduates with well-deserved recognition. All other factors being equal, integrative medical settings may prioritize hiring doctors of acupuncture. Medical doctors and other allied health providers may be more likely to refer to a doctor of acupuncture.

Choose Your Concentration
SCU provides two specialized concentration areas, including Acupuncture Orthopedics and Healthy Aging with both classroom and clinical experiences for the DAcCHM students. Students can choose at least 150 lecture hours of concentration coursework.

ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE PROGRAMS
An Interprofessional Learning Experience
A key part of SCU’s mission is to help students learn to excel in a team-based and collaborative environment that has become the model of quality and efficiency in today’s healthcare delivery system. DAcCHM and MAcCHM students learn from, with, and about other professions such as chiropractors and physician assistants. Students learn side by side with other future health practitioners starting with their first class, throughout the curriculum, and into the clinical experience.
Being immersed in learning with other medical disciplines provides students with an understanding of treatment options and building collaboration skills that will make them more marketable and effective in the workplace.
Clinical Experience at the SCU University Health Center
SCU Health is a unique academic health center that is comprised of two on-campus facilities spanning over 21,500 square feet: the University Health Center with 36 patient rooms, and The Human Performance Optimization Center, as well as off-campus sites throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties, including Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), where our DAcCHM students rotate in the Outpatient Infusion Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and inpatient settings. With guidance from SCU’s expert clinical faculty, our skilled and qualified students provide care to over 45,000 patients per year.3

Merit Scholarship Available: The DAcCHM Merit Scholarship is available to incoming students who have demonstrated academic achievement. To be eligible for consideration, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Cadaver Lab: SCU is the only acupuncture program in the nation with a cadaver lab. The cadaver lab transforms students’ understanding of the human body. It helps form their new identity as healers-in-training while wielding scalpels to learn lessons that books cannot teach, and technology cannot replicate.
Electronic Health Records (EHR): Today’s healthcare system expects students to be skilled at electronic systems in particular electronic health records. EHRs are a vital part of health IT system and SCU students graduate prepared to utilize these systems.
On-Campus Herb Garden: Students enjoy studying and learning in SCU’s beautiful and peaceful on-campus herb garden.
FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME OPTIONS
Full-time students have two class options, daytime or evening. Daytime students can complete the program in as little as three years and four months. Evening students can complete the program in as little as four years, taking courses in the evening and on select Saturdays.
Students interested in working while they study should consider the part-time program. SCU’s part-time program is designed to allow students to customize their schedules with daytime, evening, and weekend classes.
DAYTIME, EVENING, AND WEEKEND CLASSES
- Daytime classes typically run Monday – Friday between 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- Evening classes typically run Tuesday – Friday between 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
- Weekend classes typically run on Saturday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
